Living at Deerfield

ASSISTED LIVING

“We did a lot of looking around, and we chose Deerfield,” says Gwendolyn Hogue. She wasn’t in the market for a retirement community, but a stroke while she was visiting her daughter in Asheville forced her to move from her home in Detroit and to find an assisted living facility in the area that would work well for her. Mrs. Hogue, an elegant, well-dressed 80-something lady who was an art teacher before retirement, now resides in Deerfield’s Haden Hall. Her three-room suite contains what Deerfield staff is certain is a “magic closet,” based on the quantity and diversity of the ensembles that emerge from it.

“This atmosphere is like being in an apartment,” says Mrs. Hogue. “I can make my own decisions about what I want to do and when. The Activities Committee is responsible for providing things to do, and you can choose what you want. There’s a wonderful volunteer spirit here at Deerfield. Best of all, this arrangement relieves my daughter from having to worry about me and care for me all day long.”
